Westpac picks advertising know-how

30 August 2012 4:24PM
Westpac is poised for a marketing makeover after selecting DDB Australia as its new creative agency for mass market material. Westpac's "below-the-line" business will remain with the Lavender agency.DDB Australia secured the account for Westpac's retail and business banking against rival agency Ogilvy in Sydney. The bank excluded incumbent agency Big Red in Melbourne from the pitch. Big Red was responsible for the "We know how" campaign.Big Red secured the bank's account two years ago, when former Westpac general manager of strategic marketing Damian Eales was the key decision maker. Eales, formerly a marketing executive at David Jones, had a previous working relationship with Big Red executive Ted Horton while he was at the retailer. Eales left Westpac in July. His replacement is former ANZ executive John Harries, though he will not join the bank for a couple of months. While at ANZ, Harries had worked with DDB, but the agency lost its account with ANZ last year.
