Westpac shuffles IT execs
Westpac chief information officer Clive Whincup has tweaked his team of direct reports to reflect changing priorities and to progress with the bank's A$2 billion Strategic Investment Priorities (SIP) program. Whincup said many of the moves were intended to rebalance the number of people working on specific projects. No one has been retrenched, he said.Dhiren Kulkarni - who was St George's CIO before being appointed as Westpac's CIO of channels and compliance - now has oversight of the bank's online transformation program. This is one of the remaining two SIPs, which, Whincup said, was now in the "home stretch". Kulkarni is also charged with managing the technology aspects of the bank's move to its new Barangaroo office, which is intended to showcase what Whincup describes as "the workplace of the future."In light of the Reserve Bank's focus on real-time payments, Westpac has brought together all real-time payments' applications management under the eye of applications general manager, Paul Spiteri.Meanwhile, information systems and batch integration has moved to Tina Conlon's product and enterprise services division, and Richard Holmes' remit has been expanded to include retail channels and compliance, along with continuing accountability for the BT Financial Group. Finally, Maria Ternezis will return to Westpac next week, after a three-year stint as the chief operating officer for technology at Barclays Capital in Asia. Ternezis will work on the bank's technology plans out to 2017, and on its ongoing simplification program.
