Westpac steps up branch closures
Westpac will chop 86 roles from different parts of its business and close five more branches, the Finance Sector Union said on Friday.The FSU put job cuts announced by Westpac over the last two weeks at 176. The five branches closing are Umina Beach, Essendon Fields, Chancellor Park, Spring Hill and 218 St Georges Terrace. The bank shut the doors on at least six other branches in Sydney and Melbourne in the middle of this year.The bank's branch closure program is now in the order of 40 over less than two years, if the union's count is correct. The FSU said "other areas of the bank including in recent job cuts announcements included Credit Restructuring, BTFG Research, St George Business Banking, Technology ADS BT Run Team, Specialised Finance and Enterprise Projects Delivery."
