Brisbane-based online payments provider Global Payments is preparing to ramp up its Australian business following the launch of a multi-channel service platform this week.
The company’s new integrated service allows merchants to accept payments via mobile and internet payments as well as in-store using PayTo’s real time settlement capability.
Global Payments’ head of partner acquisition, Chevy Devudu, said the new platform was a “differentiator” in the Australian market for the company because it provides merchants with a true omnichannel experience across new and established payment methods.
“Partners require embedded payment flexibility as merchants need to offer a variety of ways for customers to pay for and complete transactions,” Chevy said.
“Omnichannel functionality bridges the gap between the online and offline experience and our single API technology places merchants in a better position to meet changing market demands, such as increased real-time PayTo payments adoption.”
The new platform, which integrates Global Payments’ longstanding businesses – Eway and Ezidebt – comes as digital payments providers scramble to expand their offerings to fill emerging holes in the local payments landscape created by the closure of AusPost’s Poli Payments subsidiary.
Poli Payments had a big presence as a real time payments provider to the domestic airline industry and its closure has increased settlement risks for air carriers.
While customer acceptance of PayTo-based real time payments services is expected to take many years to cultivate, the urgent need for a live payments solution in the airline sector to replace Poli looms as an obvious starting point.
