Buy now pay later company Openpay has announced a product development and distribution agreement with Worldpay, a division of the global payments group Fidelity Information Services.
Under the terms of the agreement the parties will work together to offer payments products to US merchants and consumers.
Openpay products will be integrated into Worldpay’s payment gateway, making the implementation of Openpay products more efficient for merchants.
Openpay will use Worldpay as its merchant acquirer in the United States market initially and then later in other markets. It entered the US market in December last year.
One of Worldpay’s selling points is that its market is global acquisition, meaning it can provide a full range of payment services for companies that operate locally and overseas.
The agreement is part of a trend that has seen a number of BNPL companies seek to increase their reach and ease of use by partnering with big payment networks. Zip is a principal issuer with Visa, Sezzle has an agreement with Discover and humm is working with Mastercard.
