Barclays bound: Westpac CIO Craig Bright

Westpac chief executive Peter King has suffered a double blow, with the departure of the head of the bank’s consumer division and its chief information officer.

David Lindberg, chief executive, consumer, and CIO Craig Bright are both leaving to take up roles overseas, according to the bank’s statement.

Lindberg was appointed to his role in March last year, moving from business banking. He is said to be moving to NatWest, where he will be head of retail banking.

Bright, who moved to Westpac from Citigroup, was in his role less than two years. iTnews reported yesterday that he is moving to Barclays.

The bank also announced the appointment of Les Vance to a new role as group executive, financial crime, compliance and conduct. Vance, who has been at Westpac since 2008, is currently chief operating officer, consumer division.

The appointment will allow the bank’s chief risk officer David Stephen to focus on the organisation’s financial risk management, particularly the credit portfolio.

David Lindberg had been suggested as a possible successor the CEO Brian Hartzer, who left the bank amid the anti-money laundering crisis late last year.
