ACCC to rule promptly on PayPal
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commision posted a notice at its website yesterday that it will indicate its view by mid June on eBay Australia's plan to mandate PayPal as the only payment option for purchases made through the firm's trading platform.
eBay has notified customers that the rule will come into affect from 17 June. eBay sellers are already subject to the first stage of eBay's controversial plans, with all obliged to offer PayPal as a payment option since this week.
Under The Trade Practices Act eBay is immune from actions on the grounds of "third line forcing" while the ACCC considers the benefit and harm from the plan.
The ACCC published 566 submissions in response to eBay's plan, all of them against the company's proposal.
