Bank of Sydney outflow continues

The Cypriot heritage of Bank of Sydney continues to have an impact on the bank's retail deposit base. A further outflow in May represented the fifth straight month of decline.

Australian Prudential Authority data show that household deposits at Beirut Hellenic fell by A$4 million in May.

Its deposit base is down $55 million, or nine per cent, this year.

The bank was known as the Beirut Hellenic Bank until a month ago. The Lebanese-based Bank of Beirut bought a controlling stake in what was formerly known as Laiki Bank Australia in early 2011.
