Briefs: Hackers steal US$45m, AMMB attracts bidders

  • Hackers compromised the computer systems of Rakbank, in the United Arab Emirates and the Bank of Muscat, in Oman, as well as an unidentified payments processor in the United State, to steal US$45 million, mostly from ATMs in the US. The US Attorney's Office charged the men with money laundering and conspiracy to commit access device fraud. Seven men are in custody.
  • Financial service s website iSelect may have an equity valuation ranging from A$414 million to $511 million, investment bank Credit Suisse suggests in pre-marketing research reported by the Financial Review in its Street Talk column. A date for the initial public offering of iSelect is yet to be set.
  • AMMB, ANZ's Malaysia associate, may have least two bidders for its life insurance unit. Reuters reported the two are Manulife Financial Corporation and MetLife. The Zurich Insurance Group may also be a bidder.
