Fairer NAB catching up slowly

National Australia Bank may be reaping some benefit, though not yet financial, from its removal of some penalty fees on common bank accounts a year ago.

Roy Morgan Research data on customer satisfaction with banks shows NAB were the biggest improver of the big four over the last 12 months with an increase of 4.7 percentage points, with the percentage of satisfied customers now 72.7 per cent.

This appears to be largely as a result of showing a significant increase on the important Roy Morgan Research metric of having "fair fees and charges" on which it now leads the the big four, Norman Morris, industry communications director at Roy Morgan said.

On the other hand NAB still trail Westpac (at 73.6 per cent), CBA (75.1 per cent) and ANZ ((77.0 per cent) in overall rankings of satisfaction.

The market leaders ING ( at 88.2 per cent satisfaction) and Bendigo Bank (87.3 per cent) both increased their lead over the big four in this metric over September.
