HSBC, StanChart still works for ANZ

A  Standard Chartered officer type and a Malaysian banker looking for wider horizons were two executive hires mentioned by ANZ in a media release yesterday.

Susan Yuen, of Maybank and HSBC pedigree, is the bank's pick to run Markets
and Corporate & Institutional Banking, headquartered in Hong Kong.

Revving up ANZ's lending to Asian credits is Yuen's goal, and one unlikely to be too closely scrutinised outside the bank.

ANZ publishes little information on its Asian businesses and few ask questions.

Vishnu Mohan, who led StanChart in Ghana, Thailand and Sri Lanka will run ANZ's business serving Timor Leste, Papua New Guinea and Standard Chartered.

If Mohan looks to SI and also Fiji precedents he will find models tried but not followed up that aim to bank many of the unbanked.

Suen, rather than Mohan, has to be working to an ambitious budget, consistent with an expansionary lending stance in Asia, and working to steer whatever pieces of RBS might fall ANZ's way.
