Mobile-to-mobile in demand at CBA

Mobile-to-mobile payment is the most popular payment option used by those customers of Commonwealth Bank with the bank's Kaching application on their smart phone.

Michael Harte, the Commonwealth Bank's chief information officer, told FST Media that mobile-to-mobile transfers make up "approximately 85 per cent of transfers".

Harte said the popularity of Facebook payments was also "growing rapidly", with Facebook "accounting for more than 10 per cent of Kaching transfers".

CBA claims the two most popular free downloads from Apple's App Store in Australia, with NetBank coming first and Kaching coming second.

Harte also provided some data on the bank's "engagement" with social media.

"I recently saw some stats which showed that we have over 100,000 Facebook fans. The next closest bank had a total of 11,000 fans.

"And we add approximately 10,000 fans every month. In one recent month, we generated 71.5 per cent of the total industry engagement over the period."
