Thousands register for Kaching
Commonwealth Bank says it has more than 12,000 people registered to learn about the availability its planned mobile payments application called Kaching.
CBA announced its plan to introduce Kaching on October 25, though it is not yet available.
The bank, through a spokeswoman, said CBA was always clear that the application would be available by the end of the year.
Banking Day reported on October 26 that the bank expected certification from Apple of the payments app within days. An article last week queried the delay in the release of the app.
The bank said it has been consistent in explaining that the app will be available at a later date - at the same time as it will offer customers (for a fee) an external case enabling contactless payments in conjunction with the app. There will be no charge for the mobile app itself, once available.
CBA contends that the original Banking Day report was out of step with other media reports of the product launch. The newsletter quoted the bank's chief information officer, Michael Harte, in its original article.
While CBA has several thousand patient prospective users, ANZ says it has more than 470,000 active users of its goMoney mobile payments app, an internet banking application for the iPhone. ANZ says goMoney represents about 35 per cent of all internet log-ins.
