Two banks commit to gender targets

ANZ and Commonwealth Bank may set targets that will "improve the representation of women in leadership" posts.

The CEOs of the two banks, Mike Smith and Ian Narev, are on a panel of "Participating Male Champions of Change and Organisations."

Members of this panel propose to create a reporting framework that will report targets and progress on the representation of women in at least three layers of management.

They will also "ensure targets are considered in the CEO's performance evaluation" and these are reported on next year. The panel outlined the targets yesterday.

In the case of Smith, ANZ is targeting an increase in the representation of women in management by one percentage point in 2013, from 37.8 per cent to 38.8 per cent.
