Westpac may not have settled on Hogan

Some key decisions look like they are yet to be made as Westpac works out how to blend its larger back office operations with that of St George Bank.

Back in May ZDNet reported that Westpac was planning to migrate its core banking system to the CSC Hogan platform used by St George. A follow up in the Financial Review appeared to cite Bob McKinnon, group executive, technology at Westpac as confirming this.

In an interview with FST Media published on Tuesday, McKinnon left the door open to other options.

In the key quote (from what reads like an email interview or written Q&A) McKinnon said, or wrote, that "work is being undertaken to analyse the core banking systems for both Westpac and St George, as it is the intention to have common systems supporting the various brands, including core banking systems.

"The Westpac core banking systems require significant modernisation whereas the St George core banking systems, which are Hogan-based, are mature, real-time, service-based and support multi brands.

"They are therefore of considerable interest. However, my team is also looking closely at a number of new industry platforms."
