CASU hires CEO from CBA

Ian Rogers

It’s almost a trend, bankers senior enough to know the terrain and have the experience that the boards of some lucked-out mutual banks maybe can’t quite believe they are seeing.

Todd Roberts is the new chief executive of Credit Union SA.

In the midst of Beyond Bank and People’s Choice Credit Union, CUSA is not so apt a name. It’s a bit of an also-ran, and banking is always about scale.

This means it’s surely a tasty morsel for either P&N or CUA or a teachers credit union.

Roberts joins Credit Union South Australia from Commonwealth Bank.

Most recently Roberts was General Manager – Business & Corporate Banking Victoria with Commonwealth Bank of Australia and prior to that he held a similar position in SA/NT for CBA.

So, an Adelaide boy returns, strategic mergers as priority - a topic his board may set out to dampen? Or do Roberts and his chair Carolyn Mitchell have everything nutted out?

There are cost savings galore in banking and if he’s a culture guy, Roberts will leave an imprint. Soon ideally.
