A NetBank quiz

Jason Bryce
Q: Commonwealth Bank's NetBank problems are:

A) Entirely software related
B) The result of unprecedented customer traffic
C) The result of a malicious denial of service attack
D) Completely resolved
E) Continuing
F) Media fiction
G) All of the above

Technical issues with NetBank are now no longer the major problem that CBA's award-winning internet banking platform has.

The past week has been difficult on the consumer and customer relations front for NetBank as different explanations emerged from the bank with no comprehensive and definitive report from CBA executives, who, mostly, have been content to hide behind their media unit advisers.

Reports persisted yesterday of continuing problems with transaction histories and other minor bugs on CBA's award-winning NetBank platform. The Sheet was contacted by a couple of NetBank customers yesterday indicating that they are still getting error messages. However Commonwealth insists all issues have been resolved.

"There has been a lot of misreporting on this issue," said Batten, "especially by Fairfax."

"The log-in issue was solved last Tuesday and the other issue was resolved on Sunday night," said Batten.

Batten said that NetBank was designed to handle 13,000 customers online concurrently. Last Monday, 18,500 customers were logging in concurrently and 1.59 million hits were registered in the 24-hour period. Batten said that the bank was standing by its previous statements that some of that traffic seemed to be malicious.

"But that issue was resolved last Tuesday and the remaining software issues were resolved by IBM by Sunday.

"Any continuing alleged issues are possibly customer related."

The correct answer to the quiz is 'G) All of the above'. We have heard all the other answers over the last few days.
