Briefs: Arnott moves up at ING Direct, Sydney broker sentenced

* ING Direct has appointed John Arnott to the position of executive director, customer, with responsibility for the bank's product and marketing strategy. Arnott joined ING Direct in the UK, where he was online manager for five years. In 2006, he moved to Australia as advertising manager. He has headed the mortgage and savings businesses. Arnott replaces Brett Morgan, who moved to ING Vysya in India last year.


* The Australian Securities and Investments Commission says Daniel Nguyen, the sole director of MAI Home Loans, has been convicted of 10 offences, including providing false information and documents to banks over a five-month period, to secure approvals for home loans totalling more than A$3 million,. Nguyen entered guilty pleas in September. ASIC said Nguyen was involved in attempting to secure loans ranging from A$112,000 to $536,900.00. Only one loan, of $532,000, from ANZ, was approved. The Sydney District Court imposed a two-year good behaviour bond on Nguyen, ASIC said.
