Co-brand ho-hum for David Jones

David Jones does not expect much more growth in earnings from its now co-branded store card than when the retailer wholly managed and funded this part of the business itself. DJs can expect to earn these profits with lower risk of customer default, however.

DJs said yesterday that it recorded EBIT from financial services of $41.5 million in 2009, and said it forecast growth of 7.5 per cent over the next four years.

The retailer said the take up of the American Express co-branded store card was "exceeding our expectations"; but DJs has never really said what those expectations were.

DJs sold $374 million in store card receivables to American Express in August 2008.
