Roy Morgan Research yesterday published monthly data on bank customer satisfaction that included foreign banks for the first time, and the ratings are very favourable.

For ING Direct the satisfaction figure of 87.7 per cent was higher than the usual two leaders of all credit unions with 87.1 per cent, and all building societies with 85.2 per cent.

BankWest rated 78.1 per cent, with Citibank 78.7 per cent and HSBC 76.8 per cent, all ahead of all the major five Australia banks, but it was noted that Citibank and HSBC had relatively small sample sizes.

ANZ leads the major banks with 74.2 per cent customer satisfaction, followed by Westpac with 71.1 per cent, Commonwealth with 68.2 per cent and National 66.4 per cent. St George was 76.5 per cent.

Bendigo rated highest for the regional bank set with 84.8 per cent, followed by Adelaide with 79.9 per cent, Suncorp 77.9 per cent and Bank of Queensland 76.2 per cent.
