Racism delves into Australian payments

"Cashless" debit cards will be distributed to select welfare recipients by Centrelink, as the Australian government moves to trial one element of a plan outlined by mining magnate Andrew Forrest last year.

The cards will be able to be used at almost any merchant that accepts debit cards via Eftpos.

They will not be able to be used to buy alcohol or drugs or to gamble.
Patrolling consumer choice in this manner is intended to curb incidents of family violence and neglect and has drawn support from elements of the indigenous lobby whose community are likely to be among the initial trial locations.

There is as yet no word on where these will be.
