Briefs: HGH COO resigns, SWIFT payee verification, Cape a Mastercard principal

  • Heartland Group chief operating officer, Laura Byrne, has handed in her notice and will leave the company at the end of the year. Byrne has been at Heartland for eight years, with roles including general counsel and chief people and culture officer. The company said in a statement that it would consider its long-term management requirements and update the market prior to Byrne’s departure.

 

  • Financial messaging service SWIFT has launched a product it says will allow banks to verify account details before an international payment is sent. SWIFT said the new service, Payment Pre-validation, “removes a key point of friction in cross-border transactions.” It said one of the main reasons cross-border payments fail is incorrect beneficiary information, such as misspelled names and transposed account numbers.

 

  • Corporate card start-up Cape has been appointed as a principal member with Mastercard. As a principal member, Cape will be able to issue business credit cards directly to customers and settle payment directly with Mastercard on behalf of merchants. The company aims to be a specialist in providing services that help businesses manage their budgets.
