RBA ready to abandon 65 Martin Place

Ian Rogers

The RBA it seems is set to soon decide once and for all whether it must abandon its heritage headquarters at 65 Martin Place in Sydney.

Documents published by the RBA under FOI on Friday were part of a pack prepared for parliament’s Public Works Committee, the most powerful of all parliamentary committees.

Relocating and re-establishing the Reserve Bank of Australia headquarters in either Parramatta or Perth didn’t feature in these presentations.

Sheltering in place in a new and renowned commercial office building nearby in the Sydney CBD - in the manner of ASIC and APRA - is the course the RBA will probably take.

As a tenant, the Reserve Bank will make or break the value in a commercial office building.

For now the RBA are squashed in at 8 Chifley Place.
