ATM fees waived in remote communities

Banks and ATM operators will provide free transactions at 76 sites across communities in the Northern Territory, Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia, The Australian reported. The starting date for this move - which follows lobbying by the Australian government - is not clear.

The newspaper reported that he proposal is subject to regulatory clearance from the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission and will require  changes to rules in the access regime for  ATM networks.
