Three more banks seeking clearance from the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority to operate licensed banks were named in a report in the
Sydney Morning Herald.
They are Qatar National Bank, Al Baraka, from Saudi Arabia, and Cathay United Bank, from Taiwan.
The list of foreign banks in discussion with APRA may be a long one, with a dozen or so in talks with the regulator. Other banks, from China and India, have previously been reported as seeking improved access to the Australian banking market.
