There are reports of more job cuts at three banks in this morning's newspapers affecting ANZ, Suncorp and Macquarie.
The Age reported that "hundreds, and possibly thousands, of jobs will go from the ANZ within weeks". The newspaper quoted one source predicting that the staffing cuts may be 3000 or more and equal to 10 per cent of its workforce.
This may be extreme. ANZ previously announced reviews of staffing levels but did not, at the time, confirm the level of likely job losses, though this has previously been reported as likely to be in the hundreds.
The Courier Mail reported that Suncorp is cutting 340 jobs, on top of 200 jobs cut in recent months. The newspaper said staff cuts at the financier since March were equal to three per cent of its workforce.
The Age separately reported that Macquarie Group was looking at a steep cut in staffing, with "thousands" of jobs to go, including a somewhat wild estimate of "up to 4000 axed worldwide".
