Mortgage duty retained in NSW 12 November 2008 5:29PM Ian Rogers The New South Wales government will defer the abolition of some stamp duties that were previously due for abolition between 2009 and 2011, and which themselves were, in principle, meant to be axed alongside the introduction of the federal goods and services tax in 2000.These are the duty on unquoted marketable securities, mortgage duty on business and transfer duty on non-land business assets.The abolition of these three stamp duties will be deferred until July 2012The property transfer fee will also double to $184 per transaction from January.
